Nestled in the quaint charm of Mudgee resides a woman whose journey into the world of fashion and accessories has captured the hearts of many. Katie-May Batty is the creative force behind Girl With A Pearl, a brand synonymous with elegance, style, and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship.

Born and bred in Mudgee, Katie embodies the essence of the town - a perfect blend of warmth, determination, and creativity. Married with two beautiful girls, she has always possessed a penchant for staying busy, a trait instilled in her from a young age.

Her journey into the world of fashion was a natural progression fueled by her innate passion for style. “I remember always being involved year in and year out in local fashion parades and being a part of anything to do with fashion or the fashion industry.”

With an eye for detail and a love for putting outfits together, the creation of Girl With A Pearl stems from her previous venture, Little Squirrel, where she specialised in handmade linen baby clothing and gifts. 

As her daughters grew, she felt a pull towards channeling her expertise and passion into something closer to her heart - fashion and accessories. “I wanted to put everything I had learned from Little Squirrel into something that resonated with my love for fashion,” she explains.

Starting as a side hustle while working part-time in finance, Girl With A Pearl quickly gained traction and became highly sought after. Encouraged by the overwhelming response, she took a leap of faith, quit her job and devoted herself fully to the business.

When asked about her sources of inspiration, Katie acknowledges the influence of those around her, but one name stands out - Samantha Wills, a renowned figure in the fashion industry.

Reflecting on her journey, she highlights some of her career milestones, including her designs being worn by highly influential personalities, and collaborating with Holly Kingston to design and create her wedding earrings, a momentous occasion featured in Vogue.

Looking forward, Katie has ambitious plans in store. “I aim to up my stockist game, release a kids line, and hold interactive workshops,” she revealed.

As she continues to carve her path in the world of fashion, one thing remains certain - her journey is not just about creating jewellery; it’s about weaving together threads of passion, dedication, and style to inspire others to embrace their unique sense of self-expression. Every piece tells a story, and every wearer becomes a part of a timeless tale of elegance and sophistication.
