Shining a Light on Inclusivity: Mudgee’s Disinfluencers Show the Power of Being Seen

In the heart of Mudgee, a remarkable photoshoot took place that not only highlighted the natural beauty of the region but also celebrated the importance of inclusivity. Spearheaded by Disinfluencer, the world’s first inclusive talent hub, the photoshoot brought together local families and individuals to showcase the strength and vibrancy of those often overlooked by mainstream media.

Disinfluencer was founded by Simone Eyles, a passionate advocate for disability representation. After experiencing the challenges of raising a child with a disability and witnessing the lack of positive portrayal in the media, Simone decided to create a platform that would change the narrative.

Through Disinfluencer, she aims to bridge the gap between talent with disabilities and the advertising industry, offering a space where diversity is not just acknowledged but celebrated.

The recent Mudgee photoshoot was a testament to this vision. It was a day filled with laughter, empowerment, and the undeniable joy of seeing individuals shine in front of the camera. For some, like Maddison, this experience was transformative. Her mother, Joanne, watched as her usually shy daughter slowly opened up, blossoming under the patient guidance of the photographer, Amber Hooper, and Simone.

Joanne shared how the experience gave Maddison a much-needed confidence boost, “I was so proud to see Maddison in front of the camera. She isn’t comfortable being in the spotlight, especially in front large groups. I hope that having this experience will help build her confidence to see herself as the beautiful, strong girl she is.”

For others, like Kalarny, the day was all about fun and freedom. Zipping around in his wheelchair, he reveled in the attention and enjoyed making funny faces for the camera. His mother, Lyreka, emphasised how important it is for regional areas to be recognised as inclusive and welcoming to those with disabilities. She hopes this will inspire others to see the possibilities for everyone, regardless of if they have wheels or not!

Mark and his daughters had a similarly uplifting experience. Watching his girls run around in their dresses, capturing natural, candid moments, Mark felt proud to be part of something that promotes the idea that there is no such thing as “normal.” He believes that by spreading awareness and showcasing the diversity of experiences, the community can become more supportive and understanding.

The impact of this photoshoot extends beyond the pages of Mid-Western Living Magazine. By featuring these stories and images, Disinfluencer is challenging outdated perceptions of disability and encouraging a more inclusive approach in media and marketing. The goal is not just to represent people with disabilities but to celebrate their uniqueness and the richness they bring to the world.

Disinfluencer is not just a platform; it’s a movement. With its holistic approach, offering everything from a comprehensive library of stock photos to educational modules for businesses, Disinfluencer is paving the way for a future where disability is mainstreamed in all facets of life. As more brands recognise the value of inclusivity, the demand for Disinfluencer is set to grow, and the impact will be profound.

In a world where approximately 1.85 billion people live with a disability, representing this demographic in media and advertising is not just ethical—it’s essential. The Mudgee photoshoot is a small but powerful example of how inclusion can be both beautiful and impactful. As the participants of the shoot can attest, being a “Disinfluencer of Mudgee” is not just about being seen; it’s about being valued, respected, and celebrated for who you are.

With more events like these planned, Disinfluencer continues to lead the charge in changing the way the world views disability. Whether it’s through groundbreaking campaigns, like those they’ve done for Birdsnest and Visit Canberra, or intimate, local photoshoots in towns like Mudgee, the message remains clear: diversity is our strength, and every individual has the right to be seen in all their brilliance.
